Yard Waste Site near Newark Will Temporarily Close Oct. 28
Maintenance Activities Will Grind Yard Waste Into Mulch; Free Mulch Will Be Available

NEWARK, Del. – DNREC’s Polly Drummond Hill Yard Waste Demonstration Site will temporarily close for maintenance activities Tuesday, Oct. 28 through Tuesday, Nov. 4. The site is located in the Pike Creek area on Polly Drummond Hill Road, about a ½ mile north of the Kirkwood Highway near Newark.

The site is being closed for crews to grind yard waste into free, usable mulch that will be available for pick up by New Castle County residents when the site reopens at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

“Our Polly Drummond Hill site is filled to capacity with yard waste,” said Jim Short, environmental scientist with DNREC’s Solid and Hazardous Waste Branch. “We are pleased with the tremendous support from the community, but we must close the site for a few days to bring in equipment to grind yard waste into mulch. When the site reopens, we will have free mulch available on a first-come, first-served basis.”

New Castle County residents wishing to drop off yard waste while the Polly Drummond Hill site is closed can drop off yard waste at one of DNREC’s other yard waste sites – the Brandywine Hundred site located north of Wilmington or the DART Mid-County site near Bear.
