Yard Waste Sites Provide Free Drop-off for Northern New Castle County Residents
Northern New Castle County residents have a free option available to dispose of yard waste - at one of DNREC's three community yard waste demonstration sites.
Brandywine Hundred Community Yard Waste Demonstration Site
Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday only; 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. unless otherwise posted. The site is located northeast of Wilmington, on the north side of the Cauffiel Parkway. The Cauffiel Parkway is across Philadelphia Pike (Business Route 13) from the Bellevue Corporate Center. (Mapquest and Google label the Cauffiel Parkway incorrectly as Golden Acres Drive).
DART Mid-County Community Yard Waste Demonstration Site
Open Everyday; 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. unless otherwise posted. The site is located off of the southwest corner of the intersection of Routes 13 and 72 near Bear. (Turn into the DART facility at 1423 S. Dupont Hwy, Bear, DE).
Polly Drummond Hill Community Yard Waste Demonstration Site
Open Everyday; 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. unless otherwise posted.
The site is located in the Pike Creek area on Polly Drummond Hill Road, about a ½ mile north of the Kirkwood Highway.
As an additional benefit to site users, yard waste is periodically ground up into mulch that individuals can take for free. Mulch has recently been processed from yard waste at the DART and Polly Drummond sites. The loose mulch is only available while supplies last. Residents will have to load it themselves.
Landscapers and other businesses are prohibited from using these sites. They were developed as one of many options to help Northern New Castle County residents manage their own yard waste.
