The Community Involvement  Advisory Committee

The Community Involvement Advisory Council (CIAC) and the Community Ombudsman work to increase the flow of information between communities and the Department, increase community participation, and facilitate dialogue among all stakeholders during the decision making process. 

The CIAC was established (through 29 Del. Code Section 8016 A) as a permanent council serving in an advisory capacity to the Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. Signed into law by Governor Ruth Ann Minner in July 2001, the legislation charged the CIAC with interacting between the Department and Delaware communities. The Community Ombudsman position was also authorized by the same legislation.

The intent of the legislation is that both the CIAC and the Community Ombudsman work to ensure that no community in the state is disparately affected by environmental impacts.
