Discovery Lab: Weather and Climate
Tuesday, April 10, 2012 10 -11:30 a.m.
Have you ever wondered what the difference is between weather and climate? Join a scientist in the St. Jones Reserve’s Laboratory (818 Kitts Hummock Road in Dover) to learn more about weather, climate, and how we study the impacts they have on the estuary. Be ready to make your own anemometer (wind meter). This program is designed for participants ages 7 and up.
Estuary Hike
Monday, April 23, 2012 10 - 11 a.m.
Join a naturalist for an approximately 1 mile guided hike as we explore the St. Jones sub-estuary. The hike will meet at the St. Jones Reserve component at 818 Kitts Hummock Road in Dover. Wear comfortable shoes and dress warmly. Please no strollers.

Coastal Heritage Driving Tour
Monday, May 14, 2012 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
(NOTE: This tour is currently full but accepting wait-list registrations.)
Join us as we discover the natural and historic resources of Delaware’s coastal communities. Leave the driving to us as you board our touring van. We will make a stop for lunch along the way. The tour will meet at the St. Jones Reserve at 818 Kitts Hummock Road. This program is designed for participants 16 years of age or older. Space is limited.
Paddle Adventure on the Blackbird
Thursday, May 17, 2012 9 - 11 a.m.
Take an adventure up Blackbird Creek in canoes to observe the various habitats and wildlife in and along the creek. Wear comfortable clothing. Life jackets will be provided and are required to be worn. Canoeing experience is preferred but not required. The canoe trip will meet at the Blackbird Creek Reserve component at 801 Blackbird Landing Road in Townsend. Space is limited. You must be at least 14 years of age to paddle.
Beach Combing Exploration
Thursday May 31, 2012 9 - 11 a.m.
Join naturalists for a beach combing exploration. We will be taking a walk to look for and learn about shells and other bay creatures that washed ashore during the winter months. Meet at the St. Jones Reserve.

Boat Trip on the St. Jones River
Wednesday, June 20, 2012 10 a.m. - Noon
Take a journey back in time as we board our 24-foot skiff boat and take a historical expedition on the St. Jones River! This program will meet at Scotton Landing off of Barkers Landing Road in Dover. All boating experiences are for ages 4-adult unless otherwise noted. Life jackets will be provided and are required to be worn on the trip. Space is limited.

Rough Science: Bugs and Barometers

Combine the Amazing Race with Shark Tank and you have a challenge of a lifetime! Science is more than gloves, microscopes, and lab coats. But, are you adventurous enough to take the plunge into Rough Science? The Reserve is beginning a new Rough Science Challenge Series. Use your brain, creativity, and common sense to complete the challenge. Will our team of scientists be able to complete their tasks successfully…but more importantly, will you? Are you 12-16 years old and up for the challenge of Rough Science?
