Brownfields Revitalization Success Story
A site in Wilmington, once occupied by a factory, will now be home to a church, retail and office space, a medical clinic and a pharmacy to benefit the East 16th Street community. DNREC’s Division of Air & Waste Management was recently honored for its role in this Brownfields success story. Here, Division Director James Werner receives a plaque from pastor Bishop Thomas Weeks Sr., for the Division’s “invaluable direction and assistance that has led to an environmentally safe property.” The plaque was presented during a dedication ceremony for Wilmington’s New Destiny Fellowship Church. Werner named Brownfields cleanup and redevelopment expert Jim Poling as a key player on the East 16th Street project.
