The Division of Waste & Hazardous Substances' Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Section (SHWMS) is responsible for controlling the storage, transport and disposal of solid, infectious and hazardous waste in Delaware and also coordinates recycling and yard waste management. The section is composed of three groups: Waste Generation, Transport and Program Development; Waste Facilities; and Waste Reduction/Reuse/Recycling. Nancy Marker is the SHWMS Administrator and can be reached at 302-739-9403 or via email@example.com.
The Waste Generation, Transport and Program Development Group regulates sites that generate hazardous and infectious waste by ensuring that they properly store, label and dispose of these wastes. In addition, they permit companies to transport all regulated wastes and maintain the solid and hazardous waste regulations. The scrap tire control and cleanup program is also administered by this group. For more information, contact Karen J’Anthony, Program Manager, at 302-739-9403 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Waste Facilities Group permits solid and hazardous waste facilities, such as operating and closed landfills and transfer stations and also oversees cleanup of RCRA corrective action sites. This group maintains a staff presence at the DRPI industrial waste landfill and at the Delaware Solid Waste Authority's Cherry Island landfill to ensure these facilities are run according to Delaware regulations. For more information, contact Nancy Marker, Program Administrator, at 302-739-9403 or Nancy.Marker@state.de.us.
The Waste Reduction/Reuse/Recycling Group’s mission is to find ways to reduce the amount of solid waste generated in Delaware. They work to promote waste minimization, Pollution Prevention and recycling programs, enforce the Bottle Bill, support the Recycling Public Advisory Council (RPAC), run the yard waste drop-off sites in northern New Castle County. For more information, contact Nancy Marker, SHWMB Manager, at 302-739-9403 or email email@example.com.
