Delaware Breeding Bird Atlas - mapping and survey

 

The Delaware Breeding Bird Atlas is a grid-based survey of the bird species that breed in Delaware. The grid used for this project is based on US Geological Survey topographic quadrangles (quads) and each quad is broken into six blocks.

Delaware is contained partially or entirely within 54 quads and 265 blocks, as shown in the map below.

 

 

 

 

Each quadrangle (quad) has specific name, such as the “Milford” quadrangle. The blocks are identified using the quad name and one directional modifier (i.e., NW = northwest; CE = center east), as shown in the illustration below.

  Each block measures 5 kilometers by 5km, and contains about 10 square miles. In addition, the state has been divided into six regions. Each region will have a compiler of data, and is named alongside the regions map below.
