Advisory Councils

 

 

Advisory Council on Game and Freshwater Fish  The Council on Game and Freshwater Fish was created in 1953 and is comprised of nine members appointed by the Governor, with each member serving a term of three years. The Council serves in an advisory capacity to the Director of Fish & Wildlife and shall consider matters relating to the protection, conservation and propagation of all forms of fish and protected wildlife of this State and such matters as may be referred to it by the Governor, Secretary of the Department or the Director of Fish & Wildlife. Advisory Council on Tidal Finfisheries  The Council on Tidal Finfisheries was created in 1984 and is comprised of seven members, with each member serving a term of three years. The Council members shall be appointed by the Governor and shall represent
finfishing interests to include, but not limited to, the bait and tackle industry, fishing from shore, fishing from privately
vessel or the charter or head boat industry. Three members of the Council shall represent the commercial fishing
interest to include, but not limited to, the wholesale of seafood, fishing with fixed fishing equipment and fishing with drifting
or hauling fishing equipment. The seventh member shall be designated the Chairperson and shall be impartial to recreational
or commercial fishing.

Advisory Council on Shell Fisheries The Council on Shell Fisheries was created in 1953 and is comprised of seven members, with each member serving a term of  three years. The Council members shall be appointed by the Governor and shall be composed
of the following members: one commercial lobster or conch fisherman, one commercial crabber, one commercial oysterman,
one commercial clammer, one person knowledgable in marine fisheries, one person representing recreational shell fishing,
and the Chairperson shall serve at the pleasure of the Governor. The Council serves in an advisory capacity to the Director
of Fish & Wildlife and shall consider matters relating to the control and direction of the shellfish industry and the protection,
conservation and propagation of shellfish of this State and such matters as may be referred to it by the Governor, Secretary
of the Department or the Director of Fish & Wildlife.

Advisory Council on Recreational Fishing Funding The Council on Recreational Fishing Funding was created in 2007 and is comprised of seven members, with each member serving a term of three years. The Council shall consist of one member of the House of Representatives, one member of the Senate and one member from the Division of Fish & Wildlife with the remaining members being appointed by the Governor. The Council serves in an advisory capacity to the Director of Fish & Wildlife and shall consider matters relative to funding fishery-related projects as well as fishery related construction priorities for the expenditure of funds generated from
the sale of recreational fishing licenses.
