Training Description: Do you like fishing? Do you want to share your love of fishing with young people? Then consider becoming a HOFNOD (Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs) instructor with the Division of Fish and Wildlife! In our HOFNOD instructor training workshop, you will learn many activities and lessons that are appropriate for helping young people learn to become ethical anglers and also to grow into adults that will make wise decisions for themselves and the environment. Cedar Swamp English Ivy & Wisteria Weed-out!

Location: Cedar Swamp Wildlife Area View Map
*Meet at first parking lot (on right) on Deakyneville Rd.
Project description: English ivy and Japanese wisteria vines are stifling native wildlife habitat at this Cedar Swamp Wildlife Area site by climbing trees and creating a ground cover. Volunteers will be using hand saws, pruners and loppers to remove vines. Join us as we work to free the trees from these invasive plants!
What to bring/wear: Work gloves, hand saws, pruners and loppers will be provided, but volunteers may bring their own.
Age requirement: Volunteers for this project must be at least 15 years old. Those under the age of 18 must provide a parental consent form.

Take a Kid Fishing at Cattail Pond!

Event Description: Sponsored by the Aquatic Resources Education Center, this program will teach children fundamental fishing skills and conservation of aquatic ecosystems. For kids agest 6-15 and their parent/guardian. Volunteers are needed to help with fishing education stations and registration.

Citizen Osprey Monitoring Project - Volunteer Training

Project Description: In past years, the Osprey population in Delaware has seen a rise in nesting pairs. Osprey have come a long way from earlier declines and are making a comeback. Your help is needed to monitor nests throughout the state. Volunteers are asked to visit their nest every other week to collect data starting with nest building in mid-March to departure of adults and juveniles in late summer. Age requirement: This is a great family project! A licensed motorized vehicle and a valid driver's license is required if your nest is not near your home, so anyone not of legal driving age will need a monitoring partner who meets the above requirements. All persons under the age of 18 must have a consent form signed by a parent or legal guardian.
What to Bring: Binoculars, location information for any nest you are interested in monitoring (closest intersection/road names would be appreciated)
