Killens Pond State Park Offers a Variety of Programs for April 2008
Felton, Del. - The staff at Killens Pond State Park is gearing up for an exciting April filled with hayrides, paddling excursions, environmental programs and more.
Pre-registration is required for all events. Interested individuals are asked to call the Nature Center at 302-284-4299 to leave a message detailing the program, the number of people attending, and a contact phone number. All programs meet at the Nature Center unless otherwise noted.
April 5
Day Camp Demo Day
10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Bring the family to the Nature Center for a fun day of activities and a sneak peek at what the summer will hold.
April 6
Go “Green” Hike
1 p.m.
Enjoy the great outdoors and get tips on how to become more aware of your environment.
April 8
Night Hike
7:30 p.m.
Take a guided hike along a section of the Pondside Nature Trail to discover the nighttime world of the park. Meet at the Amphitheater. The program fee is $2 per participant.
April 12
Coursey’s Pond Paddle
11 a.m.
Journey down the Murderkill with the park naturalist to explore the waters of Coursey’s Pond. Participants will paddle the water’s edge looking for birds and amphibians searching for some evening food. Meet at the boat rental facility. The cost is $15 per participant.
Spring Hayride
2 p.m.
Join us at the Nature Center for an old-fashioned hayride through the park. Hayrides cost $4 per adult and $2 per child under 12.
April 16
Craft and Story Time
5 p.m.
We will read a great story and make a craft to go along with it. The program cost is $2 per person.
April 19
DSWA: Earth Day Celebration
10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
The Delaware Solid Waste Authority will be hosting the 8th Annual Earth Day Celebration at Killens Pond. There will be activities for everyone including hayrides, inflatables, arts and crafts, demonstrations from local artists, and much more. There is no entrance fee for the event, but there may be additional cost for activities.
April 20
Doggie Hayrides
10 a.m. -1 p.m.
Enjoy a hayride with your favorite pet. Dogs must be well mannered and get along with other dogs. The hayrides cost $4 per adult and $2 per child under 12. Dogs ride for free!
April 26
Spring Hayride
1 p.m.
Join us at the Nature Center for an old-fashioned hayride through the park. Hayrides cost $4 per adult and $2 per child under 12.
Terrific Trees
6 - 9 p.m.
Learn how to recycle your own paper, create nature journals, press leaves, learn to identify trees, enjoy a hayride and plant your own little tree. The cost is $6 per participant.
Killens Pond State Park is centrally located in Kent County, just off of Route 13 in Felton. The park features picnic pavilions, hiking trails, ball fields and a scenic millpond. For more information, call 302-284-4299 or visit www.destateparks.com.
