I'm Chief of DNREC's Environmental Crimes Unit (ECU) James Faedtke, and I would like to thank you for visiting the Office of Community Services' ECU website.
DNREC's Environmental Crimes Unit is responsible for enforcing criminal provisions of Delaware’s pollution laws, including regulations promulgated by the Division of Water, the Division of Watershed Stewardship, the Division of Air Quality, and the Division of Waste & Hazardous Substances.
My staff is a highly-trained group of enforcement professionals who are committed to protecting the natural resources of Delaware. Our duties include conducting proactive patrols and investigating citizen complaints, and also implementing DNREC's acclaimed TrashStoppers program to wipe out illegal trash dumping in the state.
In addition to our enforcement responsibilities, sworn Environmental Crime Unit officers are members of the State Emergency Response Team (SERT). We respond 24 hours a day to environmental emergencies and hazardous materials incidents that occur at fixed industrial facilities, waterways, railways and on Delaware roadways.
I take great pride in the accomplishments of the unit and invite you to browse the enforcement pages in the Community Services' website so that you may learn more about the important work we do.
