Do I have to leave my name when reporting a complaint?
Callers’ names are kept strictly confidential. Callers also may request the officers phone them in reply with the results of their complaints.
What types of complaints do you handle?
Complaints are generally about releases into the environment such as odors, burning, dumping, discharges into water courses, erosion, spills, and construction of wells, septic system, and structures in wetlands, asbestos and hazardous waste issues.
Can your staff handle my complaint or must I call a police officer?
Environmental Police Officers are certified police officers with full arrest powers. Officers are also members of the State Environmental Response Team and handle response to emergencies 24/7.
What if my complaint occurs after normal office hours?
Officers are on duty actively patrolling statewide 12 hours a day and on call at all times.
What if my complaint is not within your jurisdiction?
DNREC dispatchers will triage your complaint and provide you with contact information from the agency for assisting with your complaint.
