Chesapeake Bay Milestones

To continue accelerating progress toward meeting water quality goals, the EPA and Chesapeake Bay Program jurisdictions, including Delaware, agreed to set interim two-year milestones - or short-term goals - as a critical part of an accountability framework. The two-year milestones represent key check-in points on the way to having 60 percent of the pollution reduction measures in place by 2017 and 100% of the measures in place by 2025. The 2017 and 2025 goals are identified in Delaware's Phase I and Phase II Watershed Implemenation Plans (WIP). The milestones outline steps Delaware will take during a two-year period of time to reduce nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment pollution to the Chesapeake Bay.

The first set of milestone goals were developed for the 2009-2011 period. Milestones for the January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2013 period were also recently proposed.
