Description: The DuPont Nature Center is hosting training for its volunteers. Volunteers will learn about spawning horseshoe crabs, migratory shorebirds, fish, and shellfish so they can better serve the nature center visitors and surrounding Bayshore region. Participants must be registered DNC volunteers to attend.
Volunteers only need to attend one of the two training sessions.
Age Requirement: Volunteers must be 12 years of age or older. Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

2015 Horseshoe Crab Spawning Survey

Directions to the St. Jones Reserve
Description: The DNERR holds two volunteer training sessions each year in the early spring for anyone interested in assisting with the Horseshoe Crab Spawning survey at the St. Jones Reserve. During the training, volunteers learn how to conduct the survey, how to properly record data and how to distinguish between male and female horseshoe crabs. The training also highlights the results of horseshoe crab survey data from previous years and how it is being used. Participants who are interested in other Delaware Bay beaches not coordinated by the DNERR are welcome to attend the training and will be referred to the appropriate beach leader for further information.
Requirements: Volunteers must be over the age of 13 and if under 18 provide a parental consent form. All volunteers must attend training before being able to participate in the survey.

Take a Kid Fishing! & Family Fishing Programs

Training Description: The kids fishing programs with the Division of Fish & Wildlife are fun and easy - you do not need to have any special knowledge of fishing in order to volunteer with us. We have some volunteers who are avid anglers and others who prefer to help the kids with activities such as knot tying or fish printing. There is something for everyone who would like to get outdoors and join other volunteers in a great program for kids!
Other Requirements: Volunteers 16 years and older must have a current Delaware fishing license to fish. For volunteers seeking information on how to obtain a fishing license, please visit the Division of Fish & Wildlife's Recreational Licenses & Permits webpage.

Augustine Wildlife Area - Restoration Site Cleanup

Project Description: The Division of Fish & Wildlife is working to re-establish native wildlife habitat at this partially wooded site that sits along the marsh. The next step in the restoration is to clean up trash and debris that has been dumped there. This project involves picking up trash and some large debris (such as tires). Gloves and trash bags will be provided.
Age requirement: Volunteers under the age of 18 must provide a parental consent form. Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
What to Bring/Wear: Sturdy boots/sneakers or waterproof boots and long pants.

Christina River Watershed Cleanup
Saturday, April 18 8 a.m. - noon Rain or Shine
Location: Northern New Castle County - sites from North Wilmington to Glasgow

Project Description: During this annual cleanup, volunteers pick up trash within the watershed, and along shorelines by land and boat, along the Christina River, White Clay Creek, Naamans Creek, and various tributaries.
Age requirement: Due to insurance requirements, volunteers under the age of 16 must have adult supervision.
What to Bring/Wear: Participants should wear brightly colored clothing, long sleeves and pants, boots or water-resistant shoes, hats, heavy-duty gloves, insect repellent and sunscreen. Waders or hip boots are also helpful for some sites. Trash bags, gloves, water and snacks will be provided. Participants will receive a free 2015 Cleanup t-shirt designed by a Delaware student.
