Training Description: Do you like fishing? Do you want to share your love of fishing with young people? Then consider becoming a HOFNOD (Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs) instructor with the Division of Fish and Wildlife! In our HOFNOD instructor training workshop, you will learn many activities and lessons that are appropriate for helping young people learn to become ethical anglers and also to grow into adults that will make wise decisions for themselves and the environment. Delaware Amphibian Monitoring Project (DAMP) -
Volunteer Orientation

Training Description: Concerned about the decline in Delaware's amphibian species? Join a national project working to assess frog and toad populations trends. Data is collected using a calling survey technique where volunteers identify local amphibian species by their vocalizations. By driving a specified route and listening to calls roadside, you can help identify species throughout Delaware. For more information on the project, visit the North American Amphibian Monitoring Program website.
What to Bring/Wear: Boots and a flashlight. All volunteer survey materials will be supplied upon route selection.
Age Requirement: DAMP volunteers must be 18 years of age and are required to have a licensed motorized vehicle and a valid drivers license with the the ability to drive at night (or with the commitment of a co-volunteer to drive).
Contact: Pre-registration is requested along with route choice. Route availability can be viewed on the NAAMP site. We would like to cover all the vacant routes but can have more than one volunteer per route if there are no vacant ones near where you live. Project description: Oriental bittersweet and wineberry are invasive plants that are covering areas of the 3D Archery Course at the Ommelanden Hunter Education & Training Center. Bittersweet vines are out-competing native plants and blanketing wildlife habitat, while wineberry is filling in the understory. Grab a set of work gloves and pruners and join us as we work to remove these invasive plants!
What to bring/wear: Work gloves, hand saws and loppers will be provided, but volunteers may also bring their own.
Age requirement: Volunteers for this project must be at least 15 years old. Those under the age of 18 must provide a parental consent form.

Blackbird Reserve Invasive Plant Weed-out
National Invasive Species Awareness Week Kick-off!

Project description: Fish and Wildlife staff and volunteers have been working on restoration projects at this site for the past year and are making great progress! Native trees have been planted and invasive vines and shrubs have been cut back. However, our work is not done here and there are more invasive plants to eradicate before restoration at this site is complete. Volunteers will be using hand saws, pruners and loppers to manually remove plants. Join us as we kick off National Invasive Species Awareness Week and work to remove invasive plants such as wintercreeper euonymous, English ivy, Japanese wisteria and multi-flora rose!
What to bring/wear: Work gloves, hand saws, pruners and loppers will be provided, but volunteers may bring their own.

Cape Henlopen State Park - Invasive Plant Workday

Project description: National Invasive Species Awareness Week starts February 26th! Kick off the week with an afternoon working on invasive plant removal in Cape Henlopen State Park! The Environmental Stewardship Program of the Division of Parks and Recreation will be hosting an invasive plant workday off Wolfe Neck Rd. near the Junction & Breakwater Trail at Cape Henlopen State Park. Staff & volunteers will be removing wisteria, Japanese honeysuckle and other invasives that invade the dunes and the understory of forest habitat throughout the park.
Unsure of your plant I.D.? No problem! Environmental Stewardship Program staff will assist with identification of the shrubs and vines as well as native plants.
What to bring/wear: Volunteers should wear old/work clothes and sneakers or boots. Work gloves, hand saws, pruners and loppers will be provided, but volunteers may bring their own.
