NEWS UPDATES:

EPA SOLICITING APPLICATIONS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE GRANT FUNDING - U.S. EPA is accepting grant applications for a total of $1 million in funding for projects aimed at addressing environmental and public health issues in communities. EPA expects to award approximately 40 grants of up to $25,000 each and will accept applications until January 8, 2010. DNREC PRESENTS FUNDING WORKSHOPS FOR COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS – A public workshop on funding opportunities for environmental projects that benefit Delaware communities will be held by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s (DNREC) Community Involvement Advisory Council (CIAC). Approximately $379,350 in grant funds are available in 2010 from Delaware’s Community Environmental Project Fund for projects that restore or provide environmental benefits to communities were civil or administrative environmental violations have occurred. The workshop will be held on Monday, November 16 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., DNREC Offices, 391 Lukens Drive, New Castle. Workshop pre-registration is requested but not required by contacting Vicki Ward, Office of the Secretary, (302) 739-9000 or Vicki.Ward@state.de.us. Grant requirements and the application form can be found on DNREC’s website, www.dnrec.delaware.gov/CIAC. The CIAC will accept applications for CEPF funding until 4:30 p.m., January 15, 2010. BROWNFIELDS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM The Division’s Brownfields Development Program encourages the cleanup and redevelopment of vacant, abandoned or underutilized properties which may be contaminated. A party seeking to develop such a property negotiates with the Division's Site Investigation and Restoration Branch (SIRB) for a Brownfields Development Agreement (BDA) or a Brownfields Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP) Agreement to perform an investigation and, if necessary, a remedial action or remedy, for the purpose of addressing the risks posed by past releases of hazardous substances at these sites. AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT PERMITTING PROGRAM Notice has been given that the facilities listed below have submitted applications for air quality management permits. The applications, the “draft/proposed” permits, all materials that the applicant has submitted (other than those granted confidential treatment under DNREC rules), and a copy of summary of other materials, if any, considered in preparing the “draft/proposed” permit may be inspected at the offices of the Division of Air and Waste Management, 156 S.
