Enforcement is an important tool in carrying out the Department’s mission of protecting Delaware’s environment and enhancing the quality of life in the State. Environmental laws and regulations are established to protect and foster a healthy and sustainable environment. DNREC is committed to ensuring compliance with those laws and regulations and initiating enforcement action when warranted.
Civil enforcement within DAWM is conducted through the various regulatory programs in conjunction with the State Attorney General’s Office. Criminal enforcement is conducted by the Division’s Environmental Crimes Unit and is expanded beyond the Division’s regulatory authority to include enforcing the programs housed within the Division of Water Resources and the Division of Soil & Water Conservation.
